Map Of The Sea Floor
Stone has been extracted in the quarries of Cavae Romanae and Vintijan and on the island of Veli Frašker for centuries. The sea-beds of sheltered coves conceal many secrets, such as old docks in Soline and Veli Frašker or the remains of Roman thermae/baths in Paltana. The surrounding sea floor is graveyard of sunken ships carrying oil, wine, construction materials and weapons along vital trade routes throughout history. Soline Forest Park between Pješčana Uvala and Vinkuran descends to the sea and is notable as one of the last habitats for indigenous Mediterranean holly oak, Quercus ilex.
